Make sure you’re registered to vote

Derbyshire Dales District Council is reminding residents to make sure they are registered to vote in the forthcoming Parliamentary Election on 12 December.

Returning Officer for the Derbyshire Dales, Sandra Lamb said: "You only need to register once unless you have recently moved house. It takes just five minutes to register online at - just make sure you have your National Insurance number to hand.

"The online service also enables you to update your name, address or other details on the electoral register - and you need to be on the electoral register to vote on 12 December 2019."

The last date to register to vote at this election is 26 November, and Sandra said: "If you know you will be away from home on polling day you can apply to have a postal vote or appoint a proxy to vote for you. Anyone can apply and you don't need to give a reason."

The closing date to receive applications to vote by post is 5pm on 26 November and by proxy 5pm on 4 December.

Sandra added: "Traditionally, the Derbyshire Dales turns out in large numbers at election time - the turnout here at the last General Election in 2017 was 77% and we want to maintain that impressive record."
