Flood Warden Scheme

Bakewell Town Council, working in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Emergency Planning Team and the Environment Agency, has set up a Flood Warden Scheme for Bakewell.

Similar schemes have been rolled out throughout the country over the past few years and, as we are close to the River Wye, it seems appropriate to develop a scheme for the town.

The Flood Warden's role will initially be to:

  • Monitor river levels locally,
  • Identify known risks and notify the responsible Authority to enable rectification or preventative work
  • Carry out the "Time of Flood Hazard Survey"
  • Identify vulnerable locations

Initially, an area covering mainly Granby Croft, Granby Road , Market Street has been surveyed to identify hazards that would not be visible should there be a flood This would be used to assist Emergency Services arriving. As work progresses a Community Flood Plan will evolve.

Steve Edwards is Bakewell's Flood Warden and additional Wardens are being recruited. For further information, in the first instance please contact the Town Clerk.
