Bakewell Almshouses
The Bakewell Almshouses of St. John's Hospital were founded in 1602 and the properties in South Church Street represent a significant part of the town's historical and architectural heritage. The purpose of the charity is to provide accommodation for local people with financial and housing needs. Having completed a successful modernisation and restoration project, and moreover having achieved financial stability and viability, the trustees wonder if they might be able to help others in need. So they are now exploring the opportunity to develop a small number of additional almshouses and are seeking to identify a suitable site in the town.
If you know of a small plot of land, suitable for 2-3 properties, or a building that has the potential to be renovated or converted to provide almshouse accommodation, please contact the Town Clerk.
