Fairtrade is a global movement which is represented in the UK by the Fairtrade Foundation.

The International Fairtrade system represents the world's largest and most recognised fair trade system, a global organisation working to secure a better deal for farmers and workers.

Bakewell became a Fairtrade Town in 2008 and Bakewell Town Council has regularly supported the annual Fairtrade Fortnight with events as diverse as baking competition to a "banana run" (with thanks to the "Bakewell Hurriers" running group).

In 2017 our event involved the Bakewell Infant School pupils identifying and collecting Fairtrade logos, with the winners receiving vouchers to spend on Fairtrade goods.

The Town Council also supports the Derbyshire Dales District Fairtrade project, working with Ashbourne, Darley Dale, Matlock and Wirksworth.
